Digital compensation offsets onshore closures as SGA reports 5.1% revenue growth

Licensed gaming companies in Sweden earned revenue of SEK 6. 24 billion (£ 2018 . 93 m) in the first quarter of the year, up 5.1% from the SEK 5 billion 94 billion (£ 504. 48 m) recorded in 2020.

At the end of the first quarter, the regulator reported that nearly 63, 000 people were suspended for gambling through Spelpaus.se. This is an increase of just over six percent compared to the previous quarter. By mid-May 2021, the number had risen to almost 64, 000.

101 companies had active licenses in the Swedish market in May 2021 (does not include non-profit licenses). 71 of these were licensed for betting and/or commercial online gaming.

Earlier in the year, following the release of data for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2020, estimated gambling capital in the second half of the year that revenues of between SEK 613 million - 724 million were received by companies outside the Swedish licensing system in the fourth quarter. This approximation rose to SEK 2.4-2.6 billion for the year.
