Las Vegas is on the short list to take over the MLB Oakland A's franchise. The team announced this week that it would explore a new home after Bay Area city officials once again failed to agree to terms that would help build a long overdue and desperately needed new stadium.
A's billionaire John Fisher, whose parents founded the clothing brand GAP , said he is looking for a city that is willing to invest in a new professional baseball venue. MLB said yesterday that the A's current home, the Oakland Coliseum, "is not a viable option for baseball's future vision."
The A's future success depends on a new pitch, " Fisher said in a statement.
"Oakland is a great baseball city and we will continue our waterfront ball field project. We will also follow MLB's lead in exploring other markets, "Fisher continued.
A new statement is being strongly considered in Las Vegas. The casino city is now home to four major professional sports leagues. A former professional A team - the Raiders - now calls the gambling mecca home.
Financing of the stadium
Fisher and MLB have proposed to build a $ 12 billion baseball field and multipurpose complex at Howard Terminal in Oakland. Along with the stadium, the field includes 3, 000 affordable housing units, office and retail space and a hotel.
